Jappe Dendievel – ARD INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION

Bassoon

Jappe Dendievel was born in Ostend, Belgium, in 2004 and began playing the violin at the age of four. He discovered his passion for various instruments at an early age before eventually specializing in the bassoon.

In 2026, Dendievel earned his Master of Music degree from the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts with the highest honors, having studied there under Dag Jensen and Katrin Lazar. Beginning in October 2026, he will continue his studies with Katrin Lazar, focusing on historical instruments.

He received further formative artistic inspiration from his former teacher Francis Pollet, as well as in master classes with Sergio Azzolini, Gustavo Núñez, and Sophie Dervaux.

Jappe Dendievel is currently completing his probationary year as principal bassoonist with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. As an orchestral musician, he regularly performs as a guest with renowned ensembles such as the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

Dendievel is also active internationally as a chamber musician and soloist. He has shared the stage with artists such as François Leleux, Reto Bieri, Lisa Jacobs, and Hervé Joulain, including at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

In 2021, Dendievel won first prize at the Dutch Prinses Christina Concours and was accepted into the I SOLISTI Next Generation Artists program. In 2025, he received scholarships from Villa Musica Rheineland-Pfalz and the PE-Förderung Mannheim. That same year, he was a member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra and has since been touring internationally with the festival’s chamber orchestra.

In 2025, he was awarded the DAAD Prize for his work as the founder of the Mahler Student Festival Orchestra, which provides young musicians worldwide with access to the symphonic repertoire.

At the 75th ARD International Music Competition, Jappe Dendievel won second prize in the bassoon category.
