Jiwon Yang

South Korean pianist Jiwon Yang made her debut in 2012 at the age of just nine with solo concerts at Mozart Hall and Kumho Art Hall in Seoul. By the age of 17, she had already won numerous prizes, including third prize at the 2019 Van Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition and the 2018 Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Pianists, first prize at the 2017 Dong-A Competition, and second prize at the Astana Piano Passion Competition.

Yang has since performed with renowned orchestras such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Camerata New York Orchestra, working with renowned conductors such as Richard Owen and Ruth Reinhardt. Her notable performances include a solo concert at Kumho Art Hall, appearances at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, and the Stars on Baikal Festival in Irkutsk in 2018.

Since fall 2020, Yang has been performing in New York, including at Steinway Hall and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. Since 2023, she has also been performing regularly at major venues in the city, including the Frick Collection, the Penn Club, and the University Club. She has also been featured on the classical radio station WQXR’s “Young Artist Showcase” program.

Jiwon Yang is currently studying at the Mannes School of Music in New York on a full scholarship with Richard Goode and Pavlina Dokovska. Previously, she studied with Hyoung-Joon Chang in Korea and attended masterclasses with renowned musicians such as John O’Conor, Roberto Plano, and Danwen Wei.
